Ambulance workers provide emergency health care to patients who are injured, sick, infirm, or otherwise physically or mentally impaired prior to and during transport to medical facilities.
Tâches
(a) assessing health status of persons involved in accidents, natural disasters and other emergency situations, and determining needs for immediate and specialized medical assistance;
(b) performing medical procedures and administering drugs and other therapies according to protocol for emergency medical treatment, including resuscitating and defibrillating patients and operating life-support equipment;
(c) monitoring changes in health status of patients during transport to and from medical, rehabilitation and other health care facilities;
(d) providing information and training to community groups and essential service workers in first aid for initial care of an illness or injury;
(e) attending and/or patrolling large-scale public gatherings and other events where health emergencies are more likely to occur;
(f) recording information on patients' conditions and treatments provided in medical records-keeping systems.

Dans les interventions d’urgence, le personnel paramédical fournit des soins d’urgence aux malades, blessés et vulnérables dans des situations médicales d’urgence, avant et pendant le transport jusqu’à un établissement médical. Ils mettent en œuvre et supervisent le transfert du patient dans le domaine des transports. Ils fournissent une assistance dans des situations graves, mettent en œuvre des mesures d’urgence visant à sauver des vies et surveillent les performances du processus de transport. Comme l’autorise le droit national, ils peuvent également fournir de l’oxygène, certaines drogues, la perforation des veines périphériques et des solutions cristalloïdes et réaliser l’intubation endotrachéale si cela est nécessaire pour prévenir immédiatement les menaces pour la vie ou la santé d’un patient d’urgence.
Les chauffeurs ambulanciers d’urgence utilisent des véhicules de secours pour réagir aux urgences médicales et soutenir le travail des ambulanciers, déplacer les patients en toute sécurité, prendre acte des modifications des signes vitaux du patient et rendre compte aux ambulanciers responsables, veiller à ce que le matériel médical soit bien stocké, transporté et fonctionnel, sous surveillance et sur ordre de médecin.
